I went to the park for a solitary, contemplative walk. I took my iPod, and put on my headphones, sans music, and just walked. And all is good, but sometimes I'm insane in the membrane, yo. As in, the world around me is completely calm and still, with all as it should be, and yet my brain still goes in a thousand different directions, worrying me out of peace.
But then God hits me out of the blue with this:
"Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body."
~ 1st Corinthians 6:19-20
Man, God is good. Sometimes He just drops little "I love you" notes on me like this. It's when He answers the small prayers and sends me the encouragement I don't even think to ask for that I most smile at Jesus' faithfulness.
Be still.
+ I tend to think too much. One solution? Memorizing the Word. I'm so bad at this! It takes dedication, and I like to distract myself....a little help?! How do you memorize Scripture?
I really need to work on memorizing more Scripture, too. I'm terrible at it, haha! Let me know if you find any good tricks- I could definitely use them!
ReplyDeleteWill do! It's so important to memorize the Word. Definitely pray before starting the memorization, I find that that helps :)
DeleteHow do I memorize Scripture? Accidentally. :p I'm bad at being intentional with it... most of the verses I have stored away are there simply from repetitive reading... or snatches of hymns, or something. Love this post - and the reminder that God is good. :)
ReplyDeleteI totally feel ya with the accidental approach. Sometimes I'll find that I remember passages from repetitive reading, too, and be like, "Whoa! I didn't know I'd memorized that verse!" lol Thanks chica! :)
DeleteHow much I love some long walks with music in my ears...
ReplyDeleteLong walks + music = the best thing ever. Especially if it's in a park or a nice, woodsy area. :)
DeleteI still have trouble memorizing scripture, but the way I do it now is when I do a Bible Study on a verse, I end up going over the verse so many times that it sticks in my head.
ReplyDeleteTaking walks and letting go of stress has helped me focus on God a lot more. :)
It sounds like what you're talking about is meditation. I definitely need to get better about meditating on the Word! I feel like God does tend to hit me over the head with certain verses or topics, though, to get my attention and help me learn. :) And I love that you go on walks, too! There's something so peaceful and freeing about them.
DeleteI need to get better at memorizing scripture. I only know a few particular verses I really like.

No better time to start! I'm trying to get more Scripture in my mind to combat the lies.
