Have you ever had one of those moments where you become
suddenly conscious of the coolness of something you've accepted as average your entire life?
suddenly conscious of the coolness of something you've accepted as average your entire life?
I was just watching the music video for twenty one pilot's new song "Heathens" (check it out, check it out) and halfway through, as Tyler Joseph was being his dark and twitchy and overall enigmatic Tyler Joseph self, it occurred to me how wonderfully weird it is that human beings can sing.
Just think about that -- we can sing. We have been given an instrument inside of our throats called a voice, and everyone's sounds different, sounds like them. And the best thing about it is that when we are really moved or impassioned about something, we can LITERALLY channel that through our voices and create songs.
That's incredible!
That's incredible!
I don't know, when I start thinking like this, things can get pretty trippy (like that one time I became suddenly aware of the existence of my own arms) but why not see the extraordinary in the ordinary? I find it fascinating that, sinful as we are, God decided to bless us with the ability to write, run, dance, dream, sing.
I could go on about this, but I shan't.
Though it does make me wonder how awesome heaven will be, if we have been so blessed on Earth.
Now seriously, go listen to that new twenty one pilots song.
THE HEATHENS VIDEO KILLED ME AHHHHHH. sorry. just had to point that out.
ReplyDeletewhat a great and beautiful post. seriously. so cute. you're wonderful :)
It was the best thing in the world. No apologies -- it was legit absolutely glorious. :) When he walks up to the bass guitar....and that yellow suit....ok, I'll stop now.
DeleteThanks! I really appreciate it!! It means a lot. :)
oh my gosh, I love that song. and yes, God is so good at giving us AMAZING things that we take for granted. similar to your realization that you have arms, when I was younger I realized how blessed I was to have working legs and literally thanked Him for that with every prayer. people laughed, but I was genuinely thankful to have legs. God's just really great sometimes. :) (your tag "God gave us music and tree but He didn't have to" made me smile so hard.)
ReplyDeleteIt's been on repeat all week :) CAN'T STOP WON'T STOP
DeleteI love that! Legs are the best. Whenever I start to get insecure about my legs, God always seems to send someone without use of their legs into my life. It's astounding. So it's a massive thing to be thankful for everyday -- mobility!
Thank you so much for your sweet comment!!
I just discovered your blog, and spent ages reading back through your previous posts; just soaking it in, you know. Your posts were a real blessing, and it's inspiring to read your thoughts on life, and God.
ReplyDeleteIt is incredible the way God made us, and all the intricacies and designer touches He interwove, not to mention all the wonderful things we take for granted, like you said. And I really liked that sentence, Though it does make me wonder how awesome heaven will be, if we have been so blessed on Earth. That is such a deep thought to ponder. Thanks for sharing, and once again, I'm really glad I came across your blog. :)
Wow, thank you so much! That means the world. I have always hoped and prayed that God would use my blog beyond myself, to mean something to somebody, somewhere. So that really is a high compliment, and it means a lot to me!
DeleteI love the way you put that: "the designer touches." It's so true. The world around us, the people around us....they are simply incredible. I want my days to always be filled with this kind of thankfulness. Thank you so much for your kind encouragement!
I've had moments like that where I all of a sudden think about the deeper meaning of something in every day life and marvel at it. Often we don't recognize the amazing qualities of the little things we have.

Aren't those the craziest moments? I think life would feel so much fuller if we just stopped to acknowledge the wonders around us!
DeleteI have often thought about this, a lot. When I was studying classical voice in my final year of high school, and I had triple lessons a week and choir and class and all I thought about was rolling my R's and how to sing in German, I found this a liberating thought. And when I listen to a truly wonderful song, I feel this liberation, so deeply, like music is so amazing that it's beyond comprehension and we shouldn't try to put it in a box or break it down.
ReplyDeletehaha that's my ramble for the day.
I'm glad I'm not alone! Classical voice sounds wonderful! Singing in German? Sounds so cool! And you're right, it is liberating. It's seeing something in a new light and actually appreciating its wonder. I totally agree with you...music is beyond words. Literally, haha!
